A tree-mendous tradition

A tree-mendous tradition

Around 7 million Christmas trees are grown in the UK every year. Growing that many festive firs takes about 2,240 hectares of land. That’s equivalent to 120,000 average-sized UK gardens.
Approximately 75% of the trees sold in the UK consist of Nordmann Fir. The remaining portion comprising of Norway Spruce, Fraser Fir, and a selection of other less prevalent species.
Gardens and green space are paramount for renters. 64% of renters say access to outside space would make them rent for longer according to the Property Academy Renter Survey 2024.
In a survey of the nation’s favourite smells, real Christmas trees came eighth just behind the sea but ahead of perfume. Source: Dataloft by PriceHubble (https://inform.dataloft.co.uk/), bctga.co.uk, Property Academy Renter Survey 2024, ONS. Median UK garden size is 188m2.

To put that into perspective, you would need a space equivalent of 35 Harlow Town Parks to grow the amount of Christmas trees the UK uses.

What about Harlow?

A tree-mendous tradition

Based on national figures and the fact that Harlow is nearly always close to those stats: Harlow will use approx. 12,195 real Christmas trees this year. Based on 7 million needing 120,000 gardens, Harlow would need 209 gardens to grow its Christmas tree quota this year!
