- The Ashes are over for another year but with the cricket season still very much in play, we take a nostalgic look at changes in the housing market over previous series.
- The last time England won the Ashes was eight years ago in 2015 at home, and since then we’ve seen the average house price increase by 31% across England and Wales with an average annual growth rate of 3.8%.
- Between series, the strongest growth was occurred between the 2002/03 and 2005 Ashes, with a 20% uplift and an England win at home, which included the famous Edgbaston test and the return of ‘The Urn’ after 16 years!
- The slight dip in growth during the 2010/11 series occurred at the same time as a rise in the inflation rate, which hit 4.5%. This was the first time in 24 years that England had won The Ashes in Australia. Source: #Dataloft (https://dataloftinform.co.uk/), Land Registry , Rate Inflation.
How does this measure up in Harlow?
It is always interesting to see how Harlow measures up against national statistics.
Property prices between 2015 and now have increased 31% across England and Wales with an annual growth rate of 3.8%. However, in Harlow, they increased 46% with an annual growth rate of 5.75%!
Nationally the strongest growth was between the 2002/3 & the 2005 series which saw a 20% growth. In Harlow it was in between the 2013/14 series and the 2019 series. In this period, property rose by a whooping 62%!
Once again Harlow bucked the trend in 2010/11. Nationally prices dipped during that Ashes series while in Harlow prices actually rose slightly.
If only England were as consistent at cricket as Harlow is for rising property prices! That ‘Urn’ would hardly ever be in the hands of the Australians!
